Maria Cristina Didero | Curator of Soft Parade | Mouromtsev Design Edition

Maria Cristina Didero is an independent curator, writer and consultant based in Milan. Internationally recognised for her work in contemporary design, she has curated exhibitions, design fairs and cultural programmes for some of the world's leading institutions and brands. For Mouromtsev Design Edition, she curated Soft Parade, a collection by Job Smeets exploring the dialogue between collectible design, craftsmanship and narrative.
Maria Cristina Didero is an independent design curator, consultant and author who has collaborated with magazines such as Domus, Vogue Italia, L’Uomo Vogue, Flash Art, Apartamento, Solar, Flair, L'Officiel, Harper's Bazaar, was editor-at-large of ICON Design from 2018 to 2020 then covered the role of Milan Editor of Wallpaper magazine for 5 years.
She has contributed to many publications and consulted for companies among others Vitra, Molteni, Fritz Hansen, Gufram, Meritalia, Lexus, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Loro Piana, Bottega Veneta, Valextra, Leading Hotels of The World, The Four Season.
Based in Milan, Maria Cristina works internationally, curating exhibitions for institutions, fairs and design events and festivals: she has worked for Vitra Design Museum for 14 years while some other independent projects include Take a Seat, an exhibition about chair in design and art at the Galleria D’Arte Moderna in Turin, The System of Objects (together with Andreas Angelidakis) at Deste Foundation, Athens; Guilty, a project about Dakis Joannou and Jeff Koons at the Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Villa Croce in Genoa, Nendo: The Space in Between and The Conversation Show at the Holon Design Museum, Tel Aviv; FUN HOUSE by Snarkitecture at National Building Museum, Washington D.C.; SuperDesign a project about Italian radical design for R&C Gallery in NY, comprising a book published by Monacelli Press and a film; Vegan Design - or the Art of Reduction by Erez Nevi and The Fish and The Crowd by Carlo Massoud, The Inventory of Life by Mathieu Lehanneur at the Triennale in Milan.
In 2021, she was part of the curatorial team chosen by Stefano Boeri for the special edition of Salone del Mobile, called Supersalone where she oversaw the public program.
In January 2022 she was appointed Curatorial Director of Design Miami/ for the fairs in Basel and Miami Beach, with an overarching thematic called The Golden Age, and presented at the MK&G in Hamburg an exhibition titled Ask Me if I Believe in the Future. For Milan Design Week 2023 she has curated a project by On Entropy on marble craftmanship in Tinos’ island, supported by Greek Government, an exhibition about high tech and AI titled Future Impact for Singapore Design Council, together with Tony Chambers, and together with Richard Hutten she curated the tribute for the 30th anniversary of Droog Design, Droog30: Design or Non-design both held at the Triennale in Milan and at the Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam; same here she also conceived Everything is Gonna Be Alright by Gaetano Pesce for Milan Design Week. For the 2024 MDW she presented Future Impact - episode II, Indian Tiny Mega Store by Gunjan Gupta and the first screening of the film We The Others on Campana Studio directed by Francesca Molteni. Her ongoing project Craft x Tech started in 2023 and aim to connect international designers with ancient Japanese craftmanship, already presented at the Kudan House in Tokyo, winner of Best Curio at Design Miami/ Basel in 2024 and shown at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the following edition in 2026. Her recent exhibition includes Future Impact at the National Museum in Singapore, and A Complementary Grammar of Creation at Spazio Nobile, in Bruxelles, Soft Parade by Job Smeets for Mouromtsev Design Edition at Raritas fair in Milan, Gaetano Pesce:Drawings Life at COD – Centre for Openness and Dialogue, in Tirana and 1 to a Million Italian Design Stories in Muskat, in the Sultanate of Oman at the National Museum, a project for ADI Italia, with illustrations by Steven Guarnaccia.
Didero is often invited to moderate talks, be part of panels and juries internationally, among them Experimenta Design, Frame Awards, Design Anthology, Dezeen, ECAL; two years ago she is part of the jury of the renown Compasso D’Oro Award, on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.
She is currently working on a film on Naoto Fukasawa together with Francesca Molteni, an exhibition titled New Asian Narratives in Miami to be presented in December 2026, and a project by WE+ for 2027 Milan Design Week.
For Mouromtsev Design Edition, Maria Cristina Didero curated Soft Parade, a collection by Job Smeets. Her curatorial approach places the collection within the broader discourse of contemporary collectible design, highlighting the dialogue between craftsmanship, artistic expression and material culture.
